People from different groups, affiliations and backgrounds have beliefs based on their
background, morals and ethics. The set of ethics that will be discussed in this post are Graded
Absolutism which is defined as ?If there are two laws that conflict with each other morally, the
one that is higher should be chosen? (Hicks & Hicks, 2014, pg. 113). This post will have
examples of how Graded Absolutism, Christians and professional beliefs complement one
another.
Leaders and managers in the business world plan to run their organizations with morally
sound personnel and business practices. As Christians our beliefs and ethics don?t always align
with what society considers acceptable mainly due to influence, popularity and pressure resulting
in changing of beliefs to satisfy the masses. Professional organizations don?t always follow
Christian values, when this happens the believer is faced with being a part of an institution that is
against their beliefs and a decision has to be made weather to stay or find another occupation.
Graded absolutism insists that some laws are higher than others and that sometimes moral
absolutes conflict. (Geisler, 2006, pg. 1.). Businesses retain consumers if their beliefs are aligned
with there?s, if a company is doing things that are not necessarily illegal but are morally unsound
this could affect its profits, revenue and reputation. When it comes to ethics if you don?t have
them it affects how you function in society an example is adultery although not illegal by law it
is unethical from a Christin perspective and for this following the Christian law is a graded
absolutism.
According to (Geisler) there is a hierarchy of values? First one is to respect the source of
the law (God), then moral objects (persons) and then everything else (animals, and other nonpersons).? In Acts it says ?We ought to obey God rather than men? (Acts 5:29, ESV.) When faced

with tough decisions ethics determine how you come up with your outcome. No one is perfect
and are subject to doing wrong but there is a blueprint that we were given the Bible and the ten
commandments that shows how to govern yourself which are the highest moral laws created.
Summary
Ethics are what is considered morally right and wrong. According to (Solomon)
Christians follow the belief that the general order is duty to God, duty to fellow humans, and
lastly duty to property. ?Graded absolutism affirms that there is an absolute standard of ethics,
and this standard is revealed to us in God?s commandments which is the blueprint of shaping
society? (Cheung, 2006, pg. 1). The Great Commandments are the cornerstone of this moral
system known as Graded Absolutism also known as contextual absolutism. Everything we do
we are held accountable, taking the moral high ground has always been a goal in my life, this
ensures my actions are governed by the heavenly father?s words and in line with my ethical
belief system.
